ST. MARTIN'S FOUNDATION was put up in 1986, in response to the Lenten message of our Holy Father, John Paul II, to cast a
fraternal glance at our less fortunate fellow human beings, and to undertake deeds that will alleviate their sufferings.
The primary purpose of St. Martin's Foundation is to function as a non-stock, non-profit private Foundation that will undertake
charity works for human development, with special focus on education and health care.
Thus, St. Martin's Scholarship Program was started, with the help and support of civic minded and generous friends who
were there to share their blessings for the benefit of children of poor families who can't send their children to school due
to poverty.
The program started in the school year 1986-1987 with just a handful of idle children who were eager to go to school.
They were provided with school supplies, footwear and uniforms to start with. The following year, more children applied for
"scholarship," and as many as the Foundation could afford, were admitted to the Program. Every year, the applicants
increased, and even Catholic mission schools that heard of St. Martin's Scholarship Program applied for scholarship of poor
but deserving children. Today, there are 1,100 young people in the Program, from Grade School to College, from Cagayan Valley
in the north, to Jolo, Sulu in the south where the Dominican Sisters have established mission schools. Thanks to the faithful
support of compassionate friends and benefactors. However, as the number of applicants for scholarship increases, there is
a need to solicit more donations to keep the Program going.
While the Foundation's main concern is basic formal education of the youth in Grade School and High School, it has extended
its support to a limited number of High School graduates who are qualified and desirous to go to College. They need to be
helped to develop their God-given talents and abilities in order to become productive, responsible, and useful citizens of
the country, and to find their proper place in society.
Other Programs of St. Martin's Foundation that need financial support are:
ST. MARTIN'S FEEDING PROGRAM
ST. MARTIN'S MEDICAL MISSION PROGRAM
ST. MARTIN'S SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM
Weekly radio program: "DIWANG KATOLIKO"
